FOUNTAIN
2007
INSTALLATION
The work consists of a slender arch of water spurting from a canal to a walkway. The water lands partly on a side of a walkway and partly on a tree creating an obstruction and overall impression of a peeing canal.
The canal in Gothenburg is considered to be pretty but polluted. Fountain turned the canal water from an aesthetic object to a physical substance. The work was inspired by the etymology of the word “pollution” which originally refers to inappropriate bodily discharge.
